Objective
- Identify and train all students to recognize and practice high moral values and standards
- Help students to live the virtues attributed to and demonstrated by effective leaders
- Direct students to make better decisions and choices
The Leaders’ Club is an extension of the Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids’ activity modules. The students who are members of
this club have demonstrated knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to act as potential community leaders. In
order to become a member of the club, a student must demonstrate the principles of the club’s vision. When applying for
membership students will write a short essay on two of the following topics:
- A time when it was difficult for you to tell the truth but you had the courage to be honest
- What you would do to make the world a better place
- A person with good moral values
- A time when you were a good friend
- A time when you were afraid and helped by a friend
Meetings
Club meetings may be held before school, during lunch or after school.
Suggested procedures for meetings:
- Use the Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids’ “handshake” shown in the videos
- Learn the DVD’s opening song and use it as the club’s anthem
- Have students wear their club t-shirts
- Have specific activities for each meeting
Suggested Projects
Have students: Work together to write case studies on particular themes shown in the DVD –
honesty, lying, cheating, etc.
- Develop a club pledge
- Construct a club banner
- Begin a community project – beautifying the school grounds; adopting an elderly person, etc.
- Become mentors to club students who need help with reading, math, or science
- Locate community sponsors
- Host an annual breakfast or lunch for parents and community sponsors
Community/District Projects
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids Leaders’ Clubs within a school district may hold team
competitions. Suggested projects include:
- An essay competition on a select moral theme
- A poster competition on a moral theme
- An award for the club that significantly helps the community
- An academic award for the club with the highest scholastic achievement
- A leadership award for a student who exemplifies the values of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids Leaders’ Club
It is recommended that clubs within a school district hold an annual dinner with teachers, |
